Creepy, Crawly, and Full of Learning: Bug Activities for Kids
A Look Inside Our February Little Brain Box
Love them or hate them, bugs have a way of capturing kids' attention! Whether your little one is obsessed with creepy crawlies or just loves hands-on fun, these bug-themed activities will have them growing, creating, and learning—all while having a blast. From squishy worm oobleck to racing like grasshoppers, each activity is designed to boost key developmental skills through play.
Every activity here comes straight from our February Little Brain Box, so you’re getting an exclusive look inside. Over on Instagram, we’ve been sharing these bug activities in action, and now we’re rounding them up right here so you can find them, try them, and join in on the fun!
Build a Bug Hotel
Time to check in! Our kids took the lead on this bug hotel build, researching local bugs, planning the design, and problem-solving along the way. A perfect mix of creativity, learning, and hands-on fun!

The Bug Relay
Our little bugs crawled, hopped, pushed, and squished in this relay activity — all great for strengthening their proprioceptive system and building body awareness through play!
Wiggly Worm Oobleck
Is it a solid? Is it a liquid? This messy, hands-on sensory activity is the perfect way to explore science while strengthening fine motor skills. Our kids dug through slippery, wiggly oobleck to rescue hidden worms.
Bug Yoga Dice
Let’s get moving—bug style! Roll the dice to see which insect-inspired yoga pose to try next. Will they stretch like a caterpillar, balance like a grasshopper, or crawl like an ant? This activity is great for gross motor skills, body awareness, and mindfulness.
Rainbow Butterfly Craft
This colorful craft is a fun way to boost fine motor skills! Kids will color a coffee filter, use a pipette to drop water and blend the colors, and clip rainbow-colored clothespins to create a beautiful butterfly—strengthening the finger muscles needed for writing, cutting, and other essential tasks.
Sensory Bin Bug Search and Sort
Our kids had a blast hunting for butterflies in the sensory bin and sorting them by color! Using tweezers made it extra fun while strengthening fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination for handwriting. Play + learning = the best combo!
Lightning Bug Craft
Our kids were buzzing with excitement over this one! After crafting their glowing lightning bug, they took turns playing hide-and-seek in the dark—stretching the fun way beyond craft time. This activity isn’t just about creating—it sparks creativity and play long after!
